The Washington Post's (and American Brewer's and Mid-Atlantic Brewing News') Greg Kitsock reports in today's paper (and website) on six (yes, six) microbreweries slated to open around the Washington D.C. area/suburbs in the coming few months. And this article doesn't even include Logan Shaw, the erstwhile purchasers of the Wild Goose brand.
So one might ask: What does Washington D.C. have that Baltimore doesn't? After all, Baltimore reputedly has the better brewing water............
(My cynical answer: a recession-proof economy driven by the Federal government and bureaucracy. Meanwhile, we peons out here in the real world wait patiently............)

Well, I can tell you what Washington doesn't have: Heavy Seas, Formstone, Brewer's Art, Red Brick Station, etc. Seems to me that they're just catching up.
It also seems notable that none of the breweries are in Maryland. Especially given your next post on the liquor laws.
Ummmm....... Fort Washington is indeed in Maryland, south of Alexandria on the Maryland side of the Potomac.........
That's not a cynical answer. It's a partisan talking point.
(And after growing up in Columbia, I find it hard to imagine separating Maryland from the recession-proof employment situation of federal or state employees.)
You are correct. I am not at all familiar with Fort Washington (it appears from Google maps that I have good reason for that lack of familiarity) and I mistakenly took it to be a neighborhood in the district.
Still, it seems very much that these guys are targeting the district and southern DC (NOVA and southern MD) market.
